Time flies when you’re having fun.
I’ve been posting here for a month. Which means I’ve been working on my goals, and sharing my thoughts with you for that long. While there is still a long way to go, this is definitely a milestone. I want to report how things have been going.
If you remember, I have three goals for the year: write daily, run a 10k, and read 12 books.
Here’s how they went.
Write Daily
This is the most visible goal of the three: you can see how it is going just by scrolling this website.
I published 18 posts in a month, each both in English and Italian except for one which was only in English. I skipped a week because I couldn’t write.
I started posting the links on Twitter and Linkedin. After a few days, I dropped Twitter since it drove essentially no visit. At some point I also hacked in some way to subscribe via email. This is still mostly manual and not really good, but for now it works.
In January, my posts were read 1581 times by 773 people, mostly from the UK, Italy, and the US. I have no idea if that’s good or bad for blogging, and I frankly don’t really care. I have enjoyed writing so far.
This goal is GREEN for me.
Run a 10K
I am a terrible runner, and I generally don’t enjoy exercise.
That said, I’ve been consistently running three times a week since the beginning of the year. I am the first to be surprised here.
But, it’s been actually pretty good so far. My wife and I go run in the countryside, which is both chill and a cool “together” activity. We started with the very basic and approachable Couch25K program, but moved to some other program she figured out after a couple of weeks.
At this point, we run about 4 kilometers in about half an hour. While this is definitely not a good distance or pace yet, it’s incredibly solid for me. We’re taking it easy, but it’s going well.
This goal is GREEN for me.
Read 12 books
To achieve this goal, I need to read (an average of) a book a month.
I must admit, I underestimated this goal: after all, who can’t read a book in a month But then, life happened. And writing, and running, and work, and family, and on and on.
So I started late, though the book I’m reading is really good (no spoilers, I’ll talk about it as soon as I finish it), I’m about 80% in, still.
So, I think I can recover but I’m late. I need to figure out how to sustain this. I know what I’m reading next, which needs to be fiction. But any suggestion for the following months (both nonfiction and fiction) are welcome.
This goal, I need to call YELLOW.
And that’s it!
How are your goals going?
